Scans stuck on Windows 8.1

I just got bitdefender and ran a quick scan with no problem, but when I tried to run a system scan it never completed and I could not find a way to stop it. Now I have another quick scan that has said "running" for 12 hours and a "pending" notification for a full system scan. There is no progress bar to tell me how a scan is progressing. Can someone please tell me how to cancel these scans?
