Pop-ups purporting to be from McAfee & others saying my PC is at risk
Many pop-ups purporting to be from McAfee & others saying my PC is at risk, or infected, or the carpet of the system is hacked, or critical system error, critical virus warning, or your system is damaged, etc. All want me to click on "remove virus now", or "quick scan" or some such. Just started night before last, and has become worse, now every few minutes. What's happening?? Someone please explain and help! I have screenshots if needed.

Hello.
I use Google Chrome with uBlock Origin and Bitdefender Total Security.
And TBH i never (i repeat: NEVER) had any problems with adware (for example: "Your PC is at risk" or "Your PC is infected" notifications).
Regards.

I think Chrome is alright and for the record it's actually my browser of choice. But the thing is that adware can strike regardless of the browser used, I don't think others are less susceptible to this. And yes, I would personally recommend uBlock Origin and the Bitdefender Anti-Tracker extension, it does wonders.

Thank you all, especially Gjoksi. I didn’t have to go past step 6, and the problem is gone. Should I get uBlock Origin or something to prevent this from happening? I have Bitdefender Total Security, but that apparently isn’t good enough.

I’ve heard only good things about Chrome. Maybe I’ll switch! Thanks again for your help.👍🏼

I suggest you use uBlock Origin Lite which is compatible with V3 in Chrome.

And even Ghostery, which is now MV3-based, has started offering ad-blocking protection filters in addition to what it used to provide for privacy blocker.
