Firewall Permission Dialog Box Is Poorly Coded. Any Explanation?

It was more of a corner-case which only happened to you, as far as the devs are concerned.. And it had to do with user rights on the system and multiple users on the system, admin and local. That's about all the information I have.
Thanks

I hope they didn't mean regular user accounts on windows since my pc has only 1 user account and its my Admin account, so I'm curious if they found another bug and fixed that instead:D

I guess we'll just have to wait two updates and see what happens. 😅

Update: a fix is currently in testing. Not sure when it will be released (we have one update today and this will not make it into this one), but I suppose in the next update it will be.

Thank you so much.
But just in case you misunderstood my problem by looking at the last video I shared and fixed some other bug you've found along the way, let me clarify my problem again:
- When a new or updated version of an app tries to establish a connection, a popup appears, which is expected behavior.
- The problem is that if I don’t click "Allow" or "Block" within one second, additional popups keep appearing on top (or below) the previous one. They keep stacking every second I don’t take an action. ⇐ This is the main bug.
- When I finally choose "Allow" or "Block," the popups stop stacking, but the already stacked popups remain open.
Additionally, here are two other, relatively minor issues:
- If I’m typing and a popup appears, pressing the spacebar accidentally triggers “Allow” because it registers as an input for the popup. This can lead to unintended permissions.
- When I’m using a fullscreen application, like a game, the popup forces the screen to switch out of fullscreen and loses focus of that window, similar to alt-tabbing or pressing Windows + D. This is disruptive.
It would also be REALLY helpful if a sound alert played when a popup appears. Because during some other softwares' updates (like in Visual Studio Code), multiple permissions are often required. Without an alert, if I step away briefly(get afk, check out my phone etc), the update pauses indefinitely at the popup. This wastes time and interrupts the update process until I return to manually approve each prompt.

Forwarded to the guys in charge, thank you.

Asked the FW guys, they should reply shortly and we'll get back.

The high number of popups should be fixed in the pending update (release today or the next days). The other improvements (missing sometimes the application, dismiss of popup with keyboard) are in progress.

Hi. Is it released? I have 87 days left in my Bitdefender subscription and I feel like it's gonna end without me seeing this bug getting fixed lol

Any news? I just tested the feature with Chrome and it kept spamming again. Build 27.0.46.231

I was OOO and I am not aware of what happened since December 10th. Let me ping the guys to see what has been done.

@Rasit A question, please. Under what type of user are you logged in? Guest user, limited user, standard, administrator? There is an internal mechanism relying on communication between the firewall service component, which runs as system, and the user interaction, and a colleague of mine says it might be a possible cause to the user component not being able to see the communication due to being too restrictive because of the user account type.
Can you let us know what kind of user you are logged in ?
This can be seen in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > User Accounts click on Manage User Accounts, select your user name and in the right column, Group, there is a list with one or more groups the user account is member of.

Understood, it was a possible cause for your problem and I had to ask, thanks for clarifying it.
Then can I suggest you to open a support ticket, if you did not already? Please describe the problem as detailed as possible, and attach also the URL of this forum thread (or at least the number of the comment, 348512, in case the URLs are blocked from the ticket form).

Thanks for the reply. I have a ticket(1008203612) opened already for 22 monhts! I have this problem for 22 months and it's still not fixed. My Bitdefender subscription gonna expire in 48 days too… I think I won't ever see this get fixed.

Asked the support guys for the ticket. Maybe we can find something in the attached logs, even if is from quite some time.

Then is it possible to do so? (to create new logs). Perhaps opening a new ticket to have fresh logs?
1 -
I'd rather following the current ticket for 2 reasons:
1- BD team can compare 2 logs and possibly rule out irrelevant stuff
2- Whoever is in charge of this bug fixing may take me more serious every time he/she realizes that this ticket has been open for 22 months and still not fixed.
I've just emailed(replied to email) with title "Re: New Open ticket: 1008203612" which has a Google Drive link of my logs and a Youtube video link showing the bug.1 -
Got it. Then we'll wait for the support guys to follow with the details, thank you.

Hello,
I just found a similar report. Check out this thread:

@Alexandru_BD yeah, they also couldn't find a solution.
Apparently you have this problem for at least 3 years https://www.reddit.com/r/BitDefender/comments/qbjxln/bitdefender_firewall_popup_wont_close_pops_back/
Isn't it a bit much?0 -
Hi,
I can understand how this can be frustrating and a major inconvenience to you, but have you thought about disabling the Alert Mode feature, at least until this gets resolved? I know this is not a solution, nor the answer you were expecting, but this is what I would personally do. Like it was previously mentioned here, this is more of a corner-case and there are no signs of a widespread issue, meaning that not all users encounter this problem.
So, it's not actually a software failure that's been out there for 3 years, but more of a specific compatibility/configuration issue, based on the information available so far.

I've choosen Bitdefender over others specifically because of this feature and you suggest me to disable it..
Also, the fact that you don't recognize this as a software failure, while it clearly is, makes me feel hopeless… Sad.0 -
I personally think this is not a software failure, because:
- I'm using Bitdefender since 2019 and have never experienced this. I use both a home user solution and an enterprise solution on my work laptop. I played with the Alert Mode on several occassions, but I don't actually need it, so I keep it disabled. But I'm sure many customers are making good use of it.
- If this was a software failure happening for years like you suggested, the Support teams would have received hundreds of thousands of customer complaints already, and this is not the case.
- I've found maybe 3-4 similar reports on the forum, but the circumstances when this happens are unclear to me and can only be determined by the Support engineers and product developers. This is why I said it's more of a corner-case, and not a general firewall problem, imho.
For the record, Bitdefender does have many other useful features and advanced defenses, so it's not built around Alert Mode only.

"

No?? Even 1 bug report is enough to call this as a software failure. I'm a software developer, I know. It doesn't have to be widely experienced.
As you said, this might be a corner case. Apparently, this software fails on some corner cases.
Some unlucky people were experiencing this (at least) 3 years ago. So it's a software failure that didn't get fixed for 3 years.0 -
I think that some improvements have been made to that feature over the years, however by the looks of it, the notification component may also require some attention, as it shouldn't behave like it does in these corner cases. So maybe this is where they need to look. I'm surprised they couldn't come up with a solution in your case yet, nevertheless..

My BD subscription is gonna end in 14 days.
This is the last time I annoy BD team. It's been an interesting ride. 2 years of hoping to get a patch. I hope future generations will see this bug getting fixed.
Thank you all. Cheers0
